Award-Winning Designs for your New Forest Project
If your home is in the New Forest National Park and you are looking to make changes to it, it is likely that you will need at least householder planning permission. Richmond Bell can help you to obtain this. Working out of our Salisbury office, we have experience liaising with planning authorities across the south and south-west of England, including the New Forest District Council.
The flora and fauna of the New Forest have a vital role in maintaining the biodiversity of the National Park. At Richmond Bell, we work closely with specialist ecologists to protect local wildlife, creating new habitats and enhancing the landscape. Green roofs are a popular way of encouraging nature to thrive, as well as planting new native hedgerows and meadows. Owls, bats and bees also benefit from the installation of specialist nest boxes.
Light pollution in a National Landscape or National Park such as the New Forest National Park is also a key consideration. This can be detrimental to local animal populations, particularly insects, consequently impacting on other species by affecting the food chain they rely on.
Richmond Bell Architects are committed to sustainable architecture, with a minimum impact on the environment.

Here at Richmond Bell, we place sustainability at the forefront of our designs, particularly when it comes to homes in National Landscapes (formerly known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty/AONBs) and National Parks such as the New Forest National Park. We look to specify sustainable energy sources and building techniques that will have a minimum impact on the environment. These could include solar panels and air source heat pumps, and building using fabrics that not only are low energy to produce but that will reduce the energy cost and carbon footprint of the building, such as Structurally Insulated Panels. We also encourage the reuse of materials wherever possible.
It is equally important to design buildings that will not impact on the National Park setting and we are experienced in creating homes that sit comfortably in their surroundings. Using local, natural materials is key here, helping to embed the building in its landscape.
