As we move through the summer, we’ve been delighted to see some of our latest projects – Harefield Farmhouse, Anne’s Art Studio and Home for a Sculptor – featured in a number of publications, including Dorset Magazine, Archello, Architecture Magazine and the forthcoming Financial Times.
Alongside this growing recognition of our work, we’ve explored the environmental significance of chalk streams and sought inspiration closer to home. Recent visits to Salisbury’s new River Park, the River Nadder and the New Art Centre at Roche Court in Wiltshire offered fresh perspectives on the connections between landscape, ecology, art and the built environment and reinforced the importance of sustainable design in creating buildings that are both resilient to today’s changing climate and responsive to their natural surrounding
Having begun life in south-west London almost 20 years ago, Richmond Bell Architects continues to enjoy a strong presence there, with word-of-mouth referrals from previous clients and trusted collaborators driving a steady stream of new commissions.
We have recently secured several exciting new instructions in Barnes, Sheen and Richmond, including a feasibility study and contemporary garden studio office for a detached home and the substantial extension and reconfiguration of a detached family home near Richmond Park.
Bespoke Extensions
At Richmond Bell, we take great pride in our sensitive approach to working with listed buildings and within conservation areas, creating designs that respect architectural heritage while supporting contemporary, sustainable living.
Our heritage work currently spans the restoration of a Grade II listed Dorset home with interior designer Flora Soames, the conversion of a historic outbuilding in the grounds of a listed house in Wiltshire into a self-contained annex, and a new pool and pool house for a Grade II listed manor near Stonehenge (above).
Together with Pegasus Planning, we have secured permission for a kitchen extension, glass orangery, loft conversion and refurbishment to a home in Bath’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are also working with David Stirling Heritage Consultancy on proposals for a new pool house, barn refurbishment and landscaped courtyard within the setting of a listed building in Berkshire.
Richmond Bell transformed this substantial home near Richmond Park with a major renovation and extension. Working with LPE Designs and Bygga Construction, we reconfigured the ground floor to create a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, while a first-floor extension improved the bedroom layouts.
Due to its location in a conservation area, the project required a sensitive approach to both design and detailing. The home’s energy performance was also enhanced through measures including internal insulation and air source heat pumps.
The result is a comfortable, modern family home that combines improved efficiency with flexible, well-connected living spaces.
Park House
Last month, we were delighted to partner with Planted and Teffont Fishing Club to host a memorable Rivers Day on the beautiful River Nadder in south-west Wiltshire. Bringing together leaders from across the built environment, land management and conservation sectors, the day offered a unique opportunity to explore the restoration and future of our chalk streams, one of England’s most valuable and vulnerable landscapes.
Combining practical workshops, expert-led discussions and time spent beside the river, guests shared ideas, learned about river ecology, habitat restoration and water quality, and gained a deeper understanding of the role we can all play in protecting these remarkable environments. It was an inspiring day of collaboration, learning and first-hand engagement with a truly special landscape.
