Our innovative project, Anne's Art Studio, has been featured in two online architecture publications: Architecture Magazine and Specifier Review.
The contemporary artist's studio, designed for Anglo-Swedish artist Anne Terselius Claridge, has been praised for its thoughtful integration of sustainability, craftsmanship and client-focused design. Situated within a mature garden setting on the eastern edge of Salisbury, the project demonstrates how small-scale architecture can deliver a significant impact through careful detailing and environmental responsibility.
Most recently, Architecture Magazine showcased the project in its article, "Small Scale, Lasting Impact: Anne's Art Studio by Richmond Bell Architects," highlighting the studio's striking asymmetrical form, charred timber cladding and commitment to sustainable construction. The publication recognised the project as an example of how contemporary architecture can sit harmoniously within its natural surroundings while providing a highly functional creative workspace.
Completed in 2025, the 31-square-metre studio combines contemporary architectural expression with practical functionality, providing an inspiring environment for creativity while serving as a model for sustainable small-scale design.
The studio was conceived as a dedicated creative retreat for Anne Terselius Claridge, with natural light forming a central design driver. The building's distinctive roof profile and carefully positioned openings maximise consistent daylight, creating ideal conditions for artistic practice while framing views across the surrounding landscape.
Sustainability was a key consideration throughout the design process. The structure utilises Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) to achieve high thermal performance, while screw pile foundations minimise disruption to the roots of existing mature trees. The use of responsibly sourced timber and low-impact construction methods further reinforces the project's environmental credentials.
The feature in Specifier Review further acknowledges the project's architectural quality and sustainable approach, bringing the studio to the attention of a wider audience of architects, specifiers and construction professionals. Together, these editorial features demonstrate growing recognition for Richmond Bell Architects' ability to create highly bespoke, environmentally conscious buildings that respond sensitively to both their users and surroundings.
The national coverage reinforces Richmond Bell Architects' growing reputation for delivering award-winning architecture across Wiltshire and the South of England, with a particular focus on sustainable homes, creative workspaces and sensitive contemporary interventions within historic and rural settings.
“Anne's Art Studio represents the collaborative approach that sits at the heart of our practice. Working closely with Anne allowed us to create a building that is not only beautiful and sustainable but also perfectly tailored to the way she works and lives.”
