Dorset Magazine - Harefield Farmhouse

We were delighted to see Harefield Farmhouse profiled in the June edition of Dorset Magazine, following a visit by editor Claire Bowman earlier this year. Welcoming Claire to the house provided an opportunity to share the story behind the project and the ideas that shaped its design, from its relationship with the landscape to its off-grid approach to modern rural living.

Originally conceived as a humble agricultural shed, Harefield Farmhouse has evolved into a contemporary family home that sits quietly within the Dorset countryside. Nestled into the landscape and surrounded by open fields, the house was carefully designed to respond to its setting, drawing on the character of local farm buildings while embracing modern construction methods and sustainable technologies.

In her article, Claire reflects on the remarkable sense of connection between the house and its surroundings. Large windows frame views across the Blackmore Vale, while carefully positioned openings bring changing light, weather and seasonal shifts into everyday life. The home's material palette, including locally sourced stone and cedar cladding, helps anchor the building within the landscape and reinforces its agricultural roots.
