Planning Granted for Grade II Listed Home in Hampshire

The house dates back to the mid to late 16th century, with additions made over the following centuries. It has retained many of its original features, including a timber-framed core, historic brickwork, Georgian windows and a number of important internal details, including 18th-century joinery, staircases and panelling.

Our proposals have been designed to make the house work better for modern family life, while taking care to retain its historic character. Internally, relatively modest changes to the kitchen, utility, study and bathrooms will improve the layout, functionality and flow of the house, while protecting the most important historic features.

The existing barn will also be upgraded, with improved insulation, reinstated historic openings and new joinery. Modern stairs will be replaced as part of the work, helping to make the space more practical and comfortable to use.

Outside, a number of later and less sympathetic additions will be removed. The existing modern sheds will make way for a new brick pool house, designed to complement the historic buildings, while modern fencing will be replaced with brick walls to match the existing structures. The courtyard garden will also be restored as part of the proposals.

As the house sits within the Kingsclere Conservation Area, the design has been carefully considered in relation to the wider village and its historic setting. The aim throughout has been to make thoughtful improvements without compromising the character and significance of the property.

The project also includes measures to improve the building’s energy efficiency and long-term performance, helping to ensure that this historic house can continue to be enjoyed and cared for well into the future.
