COUNTRY HOUSE, WILTSHIRE

  • Location: Wiltshire
  • Client: Private
  • Project status: On site
  • Project type: Restoration and conversion
  • Size: TBC

Status: Listed Building and Full Planning Consents granted

Richmond Bell Architects were commissioned to design the listed building conversion of this lovely Grade II building into holiday apartments. We worked alongside the planning consultant to obtain Listed Building and Full Planning Consents from Wiltshire Council.

The client had already commissioned a Heritage impact statement from a local historian prior to approaching RBA. We used this as a basis for a design scheme that would maintain the character and some features of original house. The scheme modernised and improved other aspects through internal alterations to allow for the listed building conversion. With the planning consultant, we produced a Design and Access Statement for the council. This put the scheme into local and national policy context. It showed how the works related to both the site and heritage context.

The council granted Listed Building Consent for the work in October 2019. RBA oversaw a lengthy tender process for the project and the appointment of local Salisbury contractors. Work has completed on site and the house is now available for holiday lets – Henge Estate.

A second phase of the project involves the design of several individual eco-holiday lodges in the grounds of the house – details to follow.
